Amacrine and photoreceptor cells treated with PEDF in culture. PEDF stimulated extensive amacrine axonal outgrowth and protected photoreceptors from cell death, simultaneously promoting their differentiation. Cell nuclei are labeled in red, and cellular skeleton in green.
