Aggregating amyloid fibrils glow green with the addition of fluorescent metallic complexes synthesized at Rice University. The complexes glow when attached to the fibrils and exposed to ultraviolet light, giving researchers a way to monitor aggregation in real time. Amyloid fibrils are implicated in Alzheimer's disease.
