Reconstruction of a Typical Norse Longhouse in Qassiarsuk, in Norse Times Brattahlid, SW Greenland (IMAGE)
Caption
The house is adjacent to the ruins of Erik the Red's early settlement. UMass Amherst climate researchers Raymond Bradley, Isla Castaneda and Ph.D. candidate Greg De Wet will analyze sediment records from Greenland's lakes, where Vikings once settled, to generate new, high-resolution, quantitative records of temperature and hydrology over the past 1,500 years.
