Diversity Among The Candida Albicans

A new study from Brown University finds that samples of Candida albicans from patients frequently lack one copy of a vital master regulator in a genetic hotspot, which gives them flexibility to lose the other copy and adapt to vastly different environments. The white, turquoise, lavender and purple colonies are from strains grown on a special kind of agar. The orange/green pictures show colonies with fluorescent reporters connected to the genetic hotspot.
