Neurons in the rat nucleus accumbens -- a key brain reward structure -- were targeted for CRISPR-based gene activation. Fluorescent reporter molecules mark the protein product of a gene targeted for activation (green), neurons expressing a CRISPR guide RNA (red), and DNA (blue).
