An elevated area of the sea floor between Cape Cod and Nova Scotia, Georges Bank is one of the best fishing grounds on Earth. For decades scientists speculated the blooms on Georges Bank were fueled by coastal blooms in the Gulf of Maine, but new research suggests the population of toxin-producing algae on Georges Bank occupies a distinct niche.
