Victor Garcia-Martinez and colleagues at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (now of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill). The animals have been transplanted with human bone marrow, liver and thymus cells and are thus known as "BLT" mice. They have fully functioning human immune systems.
