Satellite View, Before Tamarisk Defoliation (IMAGE)
Caption
This 2006 infrared image of the confluence of the Colorado and Dolores rivers in Utah was taken by the ASTER instrument on NASA's Terra satellite. The Colorado flows from north to south and the Dolores enters the image from the east. Vegetation appears bright red, including an alfalfa field along the Colorado and a wet "bottom" area along the Dolores that has extensive tamarisk, an invasive tree from Eurasia.
