Hippocampus (black lines at the bottom) is a brain region crucial for learning and memory and involved in Alzheimer's disease, PTSD, Autism, epilepsy etc. Hippocampus shows theta rhythm in the real world (green trace). Theta is boosted when the subject runs in a virtual reality (colored background) and a novel rhythm, called eta, appears (orange trace).
