Art of Science_WEHI (IMAGE) Walter and Eliza Hall Institute Caption Zebrafish larvae provide an excellent model organism to study development and cancer. One of their many advantages is their optical transparency, which allowed us to capture this false coloured image of a zebrafish liver and follow its growth over time. We have exploited this property to monitor the massive growth of the liver when hepatocytes are induced to express cancer-causing onco-proteins. This system allows us to test the ability of small chemicals to interrupt the exaggerated expansion of the liver and highlight their potential as novel anti-cancer drugs.
