Hollow structured materials have attracted abundant attention for the application of energy conversion field. In this review, general preparation approaches of hollow materials are presented. The preparation approaches, synthesis mechanism of the typical single and complex hollow-structured photocatalysts have been summarized to guide the design of high performance photocatalytic materials. Moreover, some important characterization techniques and micro-structure analysis techniques have been concluded to reveal the mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity.
