THC and CBD with opioids (IMAGE) Experimental Biology Caption New research indicates compounds derived from marijuana like ∆9-tetrahydrocannabiol (THC) enhance the pain-relieving effects of opioids while THC and cannabidiol (CBD) do not enhance the abuse-related effects of opioids. Ongoing studies are examining the effects of THC and CBD on other problematic aspects of opioid use disorder including withdrawal and relapse. These studies aim to validate marijuana derived compounds as a safe, effective means to treat opioid use disorder.
