A red eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans). A collaborative research team including scientists from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution found that turtles can experience temporary hearing loss from excessive underwater noise, also referred to as underwater noise pollution, which can be caused by activities such as passing ships and offshore construction. These findings are being presented at the 2022 Ocean Sciences Meeting.
