Grants fund drug development for devastating tropical diseases (IMAGE)

Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis are working to develop new treatments for two types of devastating parasitic infections common in sub-Saharan Africa and Central and South America: river blindness and intestinal worm infections. With two new grants, the researchers are developing small molecules (depicted above in gray) that interfere with important enzymes (pink and red) that are essential for the survival of the organism.
