The difference between the earthquake with the most deaths (blue dots) and the most recognized (red dots) since 2004. The gray dot represents the earthquake that caused the most deaths and received the most attention, and the dot size represents (a) the number of deaths and (b) the interest of the international community. Interest was measured by Google search volume for earthquakes on the date of the earthquake in 62 countries indicated by ivory color.
