Tumour-associated Schwann cells in primary tumours with a palmitic memory secrete a specialized pro regenerative extracellular matrix reminiscent of perineuronal nets. When enzymatically digested with chondroitinase ABC (Ch-ABC), metastatic colonization is prevented.
