A composite image illustrating the operation of the runaway mitigation coil. The coil is shown as a heavy red line superimposed on the tokamak vacuum vessel (shown by the pale-blue shading). The insert on the right shows the perturbed currents driven by currents induced in the coil by a disruption. The insert on the left shows the stochastic field structure thereby created. In this field, electrons are unconfined and rapidly lost.
