Supernova: a deoxyribozyme that catalyzes a chemiluminescent reaction (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers from IOCB Prague used artificial evolution to identify a light-producing deoxyribozyme called Supernova. This catalyzes a chemiluminescent reaction in the presence of the 1,2-dioxetane substrate CDP-Star. Light production can also be coupled to ligand binding, suggesting that Supernova will be a useful addition to the toolkit of functional DNA parts.
