Microbial "tenancy" in soil decreases with time and loss of soil carbon (IMAGE)

In a 15-year field experiment which transplanted intact blocks of natural soil to a warmer field site, soil microbe "tenants" were seen to decline in growth rate, abundance, and diversity over time as soil carbon is degraded and lost.
