In the experiment, researchers first dip-coated a hydrophobic polymeric membrane in tannic acid (TA), a common polyphenol. Then, the dried TA dip-coated membrane is loaded into the atomic layer deposition (ALD) reactor for coating with titanium dioxide using the precursors titanium tetrachloride and water (TiCl4 and H2O). The coated membranes display minimal fouling in oil-in-water treatment.
