Female mice had more neurons with PRLR-L (green), a form of the receptor for prolactin, than male mice. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 5, 2020, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Y. Chen at University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ; and colleagues was titled, "The prolactin receptor long isoform regulates nociceptor sensitization and opioid-induced hyperalgesia selectively in females."
