An MRI Scan of a Heart with Alcoholic Cardiomyopathy (Left) Compared with a Healthy Heart (Right) (IMAGE)
Caption
1. This image shows a cross-section of the length of a heart with alcoholic cardiomyopathy. The overall size of the heart is enlarged. The main pumping chamber of the heart (shown in this image as the large area towards the right of the heart) is also enlarged, with thin walls. This makes the heart less efficient. 2. This image shows a cross-section of a healthy heart, where the main pumping chamber (called the left ventricle) is a normal size. 3. This image shows a heart with alcoholic cardiomyopathy, but is a cross-section through the middle of the heart, as if looking down from the 'top'. This shows the main pumping chamber (the left ventricle) is enlarged. 4. This image shows a cross-section of a healthy heart.
