A sample assemblages of BCH2-based tubes. The idea can be used to design the micro-structure of a material which is soft in 2 directions and stiff in the 3rd direction. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Sept. 18, 2015, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by M. Eidini at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Urbana, IL, and colleagues was titled, 'Unraveling metamaterial properties in zigzag-base folded sheets.'
