Entangled Qubits (1 of 5) (IMAGE)
Caption
This is an artist’s depiction of the device. The light blue lines are the metal gates that confine and control the electrons (drawn as blue and red spheres). The purple arcs are meant to show that the pairs of electrons can couple to one another and generate an entangled state. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the April 13, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by M.D. Shulman at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, and colleagues was titled, “Demonstration of Entanglement of Electrostatically Coupled Singlet-Triplet Qubits.”
