Historians Craig Koslofsky and Roberto Zaugg, working separately, discovered the 300-year-old journal of a German barber-surgeon involved in the Atlantic slave trade. They joined forces to translate it into English and wrote a book that sets it in the context of its time: "A German Barber-Surgeon in the Atlantic Slave Trade: The Seventeenth-Century Journal of Johann Peter Oettinger"
