Caption
Lijun Wu in an electron microscopy facility in Brookhaven Lab's Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division. On his computer screens are electron diffraction patterns (left) and valence (outer-shell) electron distributions (right) of strontium titanate, a semiconductor with a "perovskite" crystal structure. Wu co-developed a method for measuring such distributions on the basis of the characteristic way that electrons get diffracted when they interact with a sample. The Microscopy Society of America recognized Wu's contributions to quantitative electron microscopy with the 2020 Chuck Fiori Award.
