Fires Around Lake Baikal in Russia

NASA's Suomi NPP satellite collected this natural-color image of fires burning around Lake Baikal in Russia using the VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) instrument on May 15, 2016. Ice is still visible on the northern end of the lake as fires burn around the edge. Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS's thermal bands, are outlined in red.
