Periodic X-Ray Emission From V1647 Ori (IMAGE) NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Caption Periodic X-ray emission (yellow line) from V1647 Ori is best explained as the combined X-ray output of a pair of hot spots (green and red lines) located on opposite sides of the star. Both of the spots are about the size of the sun, but the southern spot is producing more X-rays. Illustrations across the top show how the changing orientation of the spots correlates to the star's X-ray emission. Crosses indicate the actual X-ray data points.
