Bioactive substances derived from bacteria will adhere to the surfaces of ore minerals in targeted fashion, harvesting valuable metal particles and leaving the worthless components as a residue. Scientists from the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF) are researching this with partners from Chile.
