Photograph of the central mound at Tell Brak. The mound is entirely artificial, the product of over 4,000 years of continuous human settlement. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 31, 2007, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Jason Ur and colleagues of Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., was titled "Early Urban Development in the Near East."
