A dog exhibiting symptoms of canine transmissible venereal tumor, a sexually transmitted cancer. This is one of two known transmissible cancers -- the other is found in the Tasmanian Devil population. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the 24 Jan., 2014, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Elizabeth P. Murchison at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Hinxton, UK, and colleagues was titled, "Transmissable Dog Cancer Genome Reveals the Origin and History of an Ancient Cell Lineage."
