Microbiome diversity is correlated with larger bee colony sizes. Bee species that build larger colonies have more bacterial species in their guts. Green circles represent honey bees, blue circles represent bumble bees and red circles are stingless bees. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the March 29, 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by W.K. Kwong at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and colleagues was titled, 'Dynamic microbiome evolution in social bees.'
