Birth and growth of a landfalling hurricane's cold core (VIDEO)

Caption

The video shows the temperature difference of air inside a hurricane, relative to the air temperature in the surroundings. At the time of landfall, the warm heart encompasses the entire height of the hurricane, but over time, the warm core shrinks as the cold core grows upwards. These findings were reported by Professor Pinaki Chakraborty and Dr. Lin Li in a study in Physical Review Fluids.
