Scientists have found that chronic wasting disease prions are shed in the saliva of infected deer, making transmission by saliva likely. This image relates to an article that appeared in the October 6, 2006, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. C.K. Mathiason of Colorado State University and colleagues, was titled "Infectious Prions in the Saliva and Blood of Deer with Chronic Wasting Disease."
