Flowering Activity Reveals Role for R-Loop (3 of 3) (IMAGE)
Caption
This image shows a flowering Arabidopsis plant. In cold temperatures, expression of the plant's COOLAIR gene is inhibited and the flowering seen here does not occur. When an R-loop covers the COOLAIR gene's promoter, however, new flowers are produced despite the cold. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the 3 May 2013 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Qianwen Sun at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, UK, and colleagues was titled, "R-Loop Stabilization Represses Antisense Transcription at the Arabidopsis FLC Locus."
