Fires in Northern Colombia (IMAGE) NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Caption A NASA satellite captured "Fire and Ice" in one satellite image of Colombia. While fires burn in one area, snow covers the Andes Mountains in another part of Colombia. NASA's Terra satellite captured this image of fires and smoke from fires burning in northwestern Colombia. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies aboard NASA's Terra satellite captured this image of fires and smoke on March 8, 2012 at 1830 UTC (1:30 p.m. EST, March 2). The fires are marked in red and smoke is light brown in color. The Andes Mountains are outlined by snow on the right side of the image, and the Andes stretch from southwest to northeast.
