Diagrams on studies by Hubbard et al. and Mao et al. showing how the researchers induced resistance to cholera colonization. Hubbard et al. created a vaccine containing a modified cholera strain named HaitiV (top), while Mao et al. used the probiotic species L. lactis to create a lowpH environment hostile to cholera growth. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 13 June, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by R.H. Hall at National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIH in Bethesda, MD; and colleagues was titled, "Curbing cholera."
