Would You Let An Automated Car Do the Driving? (IMAGE)

Would you hand over your keys to a machine? QUT researcher Dr Sherrie-Anne Kaye is investigating how willing drivers are to one day travel in automated cars. She was part of a team that surveyed more than 1500 drivers across Australia, France and Sweden to ask if they would ever buy an automated vehicle. In a separate study, QUT researchers also asked more than 500 Queensland drivers what they saw as the pros and cons of automated and driverless cars. Many saw advantages for elderly people and people with disabilities, and liked that they would be able to multi-task during driverless commutes. They also saw benefits in reducing crash risks. But some were sad that these cars would take away the enjoyment of driving - and concerned about malfunctions and hackers.
