When protected areas do not protect: A monitor has been killed on a paved road that cuts the Gomatong Forest Reserve in Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia, into two fragments. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 16, 2016, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by P.L. Ibisch at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development in Eberswalde, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "A global map of roadless areas and their conservation status."
