An Oedaleus asiaticus juvenile locust munching on its favorite food, Stipa grandis -- a bunch grass with very low protein content. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Jan. 27, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Arianne J. Cease at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., and colleagues, was titled, “Heavy Livestock Grazing Promotes Locust Outbreaks by Lowering Plant Nitrogen Content.”
