Sem Image of a Zircon from Sudbury Impact Crater (IMAGE)
Caption
Scanning electron microscope image of a shock-metamorphosed zircon from the Sudbury impact crater, Ontario, Canada. The parallel planar fractures are caused by the extreme conditions of the impact itself while the anastomosing cracks represent later damage. The zircon is less than 0.1 mm wide.
