Coral Reefs Could Use Relief from Climate Change (2 of 3) (IMAGE)
Caption
Bleached corals on coral reef on southern Great Barrier Reef in January 2002. Coral bleaching primarily affects reef building corals when conditions get too warm. Increasingly, corals are dying after bleaching events affecting their role as habitat for hundreds of species including fish. This image relates to article that appeared in the Dec. 14, 2007 issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by O. Hoegh-Guldberg at University of Exeter in Exeter, UK, was titled "Coral Reefs Under Rapid Climate Change and Ocean Acidification."
