This shows the small data logger used to track migrating red-backed shrikes and thrush nightingales. The birds carry the logger as a backpack and the cut strings remain from the leg-loop harness used for attachment. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 7, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Anders Tøttrup at University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues was titled, “Drought in Africa Caused Delayed Arrival of European Songbirds.”
