As residents of the Eastern seaboard await the arrival of Hurricane Irene, scientists at the Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing (CSTARS) at the University of Miami are actively collaborating with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to acquire critical environmental imagery over the Atlantic Ocean. Scientists are processing and analyzing valuable images to help emergency managers and the public prepare for the intense weather phenomena, including the high winds and waves, and storm surge affecting low lying areas. Images collected at the state-of-the-art facility located in South Dade County, Florida are being displayed and updated regularly at the CSTARS website. http://www.cstars.miami.edu/cstars-media/photo-gallery/hurricane-irene-2011
