Oceanic Anoxic Event 2 is easily observed in the Furlo section as a black organic-rich shale inbetween white carbonates.. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Aug. 9, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by C.M. Ostrander at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., and colleagues was titled, "Constraining the rate of oceanic deoxygenation leading up to a Cretaceous Oceanic Anoxic Event (OAE-2: ~94 Ma)."
