Caption
Ancient herders made different kinds of artifacts, as reflected by distinctive pottery styles- Narosura (A) and Elmenteitan (B). Yet ancient DNA shows the makers of these cultural traditions were closely related. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the May 31, 2019 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by M. Prendergast at Saint Louis University in Madrid, Spain, and colleagues was titled, 'Ancient DNA Reveals a Multi-Step Spread of the First Herders into Sub-Saharan Africa.'
