Electron microscope image of a bacterial community from a depth of 250 meters in the Sargasso Sea, collected on March 10, 2011, and filtered on a 0.2 um polycarbonate filter. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 10, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Stephen J. Giovannoni at the Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., and colleagues was titled, "Seasonality in Ocean Microbial Communities."
