A benign mosquito flavivirus isolated in the Australian Binjari region. (IMAGE)
Caption
A benign mosquito flavivirus isolated in the Australian Binjari region was used as a vector to mimic dengue virus particles without the associated risk. Structure of this chimeric virus is native and reaches a level of detail never seen before. Under the magnifying glass, water molecules and two "pocket factors" can be seen nestled in the protein shell of the virus. The same approach may be readily applied to any pathogenic flavivirus of known sequence for structure determination, functional analysis and vaccination.
