Special Section -- Unconventional Superconductors (2 of 2) (IMAGE)
Caption
Four representatives of the new iron-based superconductors with their chemical composition and the crystal structure illustrated. The atoms in the crystal structure are color coded with their corresponding element in the periodic table. Each type of superconductor shown in the lower panel is abbreviated by a few numerals (as done in the manuscript) indicating the ratio between different chemical elements. This image relates to an article that appeared in the April 8, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by F. Wang of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., and colleagues was titled, "The Electron-Pairing Mechanism of Iron-Based Superconductors."
