Muon's magnetic moment (IMAGE) Penn State Caption Artist's conception of the mystery of the magnetic moment of the muon--a sub-atomic particle similar to, but heavier than, an electron (represented by the Greek letter mu). A new estimate of the strength of the muon's magnetic field closes the gap between theory and experimental measurements, bringing it in line with the standard model of particle physics.
